Cheeks’ Journey

Charles Cheeks(4-2) is on quite a journey right now.  The MMA fighter out of Bismarck, ND is on a three fight win streak and is looking to extend the streak this weekend at Golden Cage MMA’s ‘Magic City Mayhem II’ in Minot, ND.  Cheeks is coming off of wins over Jacob Hauck, David Wallette, and Jesse Evans for the Impact Fighting Championship Lightweight Title in December.

Cheeks has been wearing the signature Full Contact crest since our inception back in September 2010.  I still remember seeing his second-ever fight in New Town, ND.  He’s come a long ways since that fight back in November 2010.

He’s been developing his skills and body and is now ripping through the North Dakota MMA circuit, while acquiring quite a fan base.   Once you meet Cheeks, you’ll automatically notice something.  That something is his down-to-earth personality and his true gratefulness.  He’s devoted to his family, training, faith, and inspiring people each and every day.

I’m glad to not only call him a Full Contact-sponsored warrior, but also my friend.  I hope that you all have the opportunity to meet him and see him in the UFC octagon.

If you are interested in becoming a part of  Cheeks’ journey, please contact him directly at cheeks2106@yahoo.com for more information.  Cheeks recently graduated from the University of Mary in Bismarck and works and trains full-time.  Your sponsorship directly helps with training and travelling expenses associated with his MMA career.

USA TODAY MMA Rankings

USA TODAY- MMA Rankings
April 29th Edition
pat-healy-11.jpg
After a hard-fought submission win at Saturday’s UFC 159 event, veteran Pat Healy was the big mover in this week’s USA TODAY Sports and MMAjunkie.com MMA fighter rankings. He moved up from No. 15 and supplanted Jim Miller in the No. 8 slot at lightweight.
Heavyweights Roy Nelson and Mark Hunt also moved up to a spot due to UFC 159, though other event participants held steady despite their performances.
The rankings are unlikely to see much movement over the next few weeks as the UFC goes into a three-week break before its next show, UFC on FX 8, on May 18.

Anderson “The Spider” Silva

UFC                                                                     | Brazil

Change– Win33 Loss4 Draw0

Upcoming Fight:

vs.                                  Chris  Weidman                                | Jul 06, 2013 – UFC 162

After Jon Jones’ impressive weekend win, “The Spider” reportedly called UFC President Dana White to ask for a superfight. Is he overlooking undefeated Chris Weidman, who meets Silva in July?

02

Jon “Bones” Jones

UFC                                                                     | USA

Change– Win18 Loss1 Draw0

After destroying heavy underdog Chael Sonnen, Jones looks almost unbeatable. He’ll need time off to heal a gruesome toe injury, but could Silva and a big-money fight await?

Georges “Rush” St-Pierre

UFC                                                                     | Canada

Change– Win24 Loss2 Draw0

GSP recently landed the role of villain Batroc The Leaper in the next “Captain America” movie. We still think Johny Hendricks is the tougher opponent.

Jose “Junior” Aldo

UFC                                                                     | Brazil

Upcoming Fight:

vs.                                  Anthony “Showtime” Pettis                                | Aug 03, 2013 – UFC 163

Aldo eventually wants to move from featherweight to lightweight, but the champ’s current division has never been deeper.

Benson “Smooth” Henderson

UFC                                                                     | USA

Change– Win19 Loss2 Draw0

Henderson’s win over Gilbert Melendez was the second split-decision win in the past three fights for “Smooth.” Fortunately his girlfirend’s quick proposal reply seemed a more unanimous choice.

06

Dominick Cruz

UFC                                                                     | USA

Change– Win19 Loss1 Draw0

Cruz has been on the sidelines for 19 months due to a knee injury. Unfortunately for fight fans, their constant complaints about the layoff aren’t making him heal any quicker.

Demetrious Johnson

Change– Win17 Loss2 Draw1

Upcoming Fight:

vs.                                  John  Moraga                                | Jul 27, 2013 – UFC on FOX 8

The UFC’s first flyweight champion will have home-field advantage when he meets up-and-comer John Moraga in Seattle at July’s UFC on FOX 8 event.

Change– Win11 Loss1 Draw0

Upcoming Fight:

vs.                                  Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva                                | May 25, 2013 – UFC 160

Up next for Velasquez is a rematch with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, whom he’s defeated once before. It’s not the sexiest rematch, but it’s justified, which is more than we can say for some recent UFC title fights.

Renan  Barao

Upcoming Fight:

vs.                                  Eddie  Wineland                                | Jun 15, 2013 – UFC 161

First up for the interim champ is Eddie Wineland. After that, the title-unification bout with Cruz could finally, mercifully, thankfully happen.

Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks

UFC                                                                     | USA

Change– Win15 Loss1 Draw0

Welterweight kingpin St-Pierre insists he doesn’t fear the beard, but Hendricks’ ample facial hair and punching power put top contenders Martin Kampmann and Jon Fitch to sleep. Can Hendricks do the same to the champ?

Junior “Cigano” dos Santos

UFC                                                                     | Brazil

Change– Win15 Loss2 Draw0

Upcoming Fight:

vs.                                  Mark “Super Samoan” Hunt                                | May 25, 2013 – UFC 160

Dos Santos is widely considered the best heavyweight boxer in MMA. That said, Mark Hunt has a granite chin and incredible power. Who’s going to land first?

12

papy-adedi

Joseph  Benavidez

UFC                                                                     | USA

Change– Win18 Loss3 Draw0

Benavidez lost a recent shot at the flyweight belt, but he’s still clearly the top fighter in his division behind champ Demetrious Johnson.

13

Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida

UFC                                                                     | Brazil

Change– Win19 Loss3 Draw0

Machida needs an opponent, as does fellow contender Alexander Gustafsson. They both want it, too. Let’s get it booked, UFC.

14

Daniel “DC” Cormier

UFC                                                                     | USA

Change– Win12 Loss0 Draw0

Cormier looked respectable, if not necessarily flashy, in his UFC debut. Now “DC” needs to decide if his future lies with the big boys at heavyweight or down one division at 205 pounds.

15

papy-adedi

Anthony “Showtime” Pettis

UFC                                                                     | USA

Change– Win16 Loss2 Draw0

Upcoming Fight:

vs.                                  Jose “Junior” Aldo                                | Aug 03, 2013 – UFC 163

“Showtime” could have been the UFC’s No. 1 contender at lightweight but elected instead to drop down to 145 pounds for a guaranteed shot at Jose Aldo, a fight that could very well look like a video-game kung-fu contest.

Oullette on Team FC

Full Contact is proud to announce their newest addition to Team FC.  Gary Ouellette was born and raised in Wahalla, ND, where he wrestled, played football and started an interest in arm wrestling growing up. He found a love for the training and competing in arm wrestling events. He started training hard and going to tournaments every chance he could get. By 2004 he won the North Dakota State Championship both right and left at 0-154lb class.
In 2007, Gary moved to Grand Forks, ND and found Iron Works Gym, where he still currently trains and found a new passion for weightlifting. He walked in the gym at 154lbs and within three years he put on 50lbs of muscle. He accomplished this training five days a week and eating the right amount of protein and having a healthy diet. After three years of dedication, friends of the gym who had already competed in body building turned him onto the sport. In March 2012, Gary entered his first competition. He continues to train tirelessly and will participate in many future events.  Ouellette becomes Full Contact’s first sponsored bodybuilder/arm wrestler.
